well as the year draws to a close I just thought I would say thanks to all those who have visited this little blog over the past 10 or so months. and wish you all the very best for the holiday period I will be off for a while (my surf forecast site) surf98 will still be updated daily.

I will return in 2008 hopefully a little bit less tired and with new stuff for you to have a look at.

I have just been on a very quick memory and web search driven journey all triggered off by remembering that my older sister always got a bunty magazine/comic, and at christmas a bunty annual. so I searched for some pictures from the early 1970's. I was born in 1961 so it would have been aroung this time that she read bunty.
while I was looking at stuff I noticed the lego logo from 1970 and couldn't believe how close it was but very different to the current logo. I was never a big fan of lego but my children are/were. and lastly I could not resist this ideal toy car magazine image the colour to me just make the 1970's happen in front of me.

it is time to pay a visit to truro >> pre christmas

even though I live in cornwall I rarely visit truro, a place I really like.
it is one of those places that is big enough to be small, if that can make sense. what I mean is that it is a city that can be walked around easily (I like walking around places you see so much more). a bit like york or winchester two other cities I really like. so tomorrow I will be having a good look around hoping to be able to enjoy the atomsphere of a pre-christmas saturday in cornwall's only city.

thinking about all the many fashion stuff I saw yesterday made me think about so many other fashion/clothing/design stuff that has is created from thinking, concentration, a passion for good things rather than the ever moving 'new thing'.
bone idol a company set up and run by a friend martin o'neill from brighton. I like the way his company have evolved making enough to satisfy demand without lowering standards and riding the call from the high street chains for 'surf fashion' over the last few years.

I'm tired its late >> only just got in.

just got back from birmingham its very late & I am too tired to write anything sensible. but I did get some very nice shoes from these people jshoes whilst I was at the clothes show live.

I have always remained interested in the fashion/textiles industry, even after all this time I probably still consider myself a textile/surface designer first.
each day I apply that way of working to teaching, as my roots are embedded in the design of things, especially things that cover areas of space, furnishing fabric or even clothes. the thought process is still with me after 25 years since leaving art school.

so tomorrow I will be at the clothes show live at the n.e.c. birmingham as part of a group taking students up from down here in cornwall. so it will be a long day with a stupidly early start.

I have been a few times over the years and always manage to find something new and positive as well as some stuff that surprises me. I will let you know what happens this time.

I have only just realised that it is yet again the end of the week, I have had a strange one. un-believing as I am of time shifting (1).
I struggle to understand how some days seem to pass so much quicker than others. even within that day certain sections seem to pass faster and slower than other sections.
I realise that whilst doing something very interesting we often become so involved in it that time goes by without us noticing.

I have been thinking a lot this week about an article I read last weekend about the singer of the band eels, Mark Oliver Everett (mr. e) and his search for the facts/reasons behind the work of his late father hugh everett the unrecognised genius who developed the theory of parallel universes.
unfortunately I missed the bbc 4 programme parallel worlds, parallel lives that also looked closely at this. due to my of version of the other time shifting (2) my dvd recorder is broken. it is now left in my hall way waiting to be given to a friend at work who wants to use a motor from it for something but I keep forgetting to take it in.

I know again it might seem that I have taken the easy option and posted a video and an old video (2005) at that but I still think this has real relevance, especially the hospital experience section. perception is a consideration often forgotten.
I have spent the last few hours talking to parents of students I teach & wonder how their experience of sitting in front of a talking-head (me) measures up to expectation.
it would be very interesting to discover how much of the communication is actually received, as well as how much is relevant or even helpful. I will have to get back to you on that one.

yorkshire surfing?? >> its easy to be west country centric

having read about as well as watched the footage of the amazing surfing over this past weekend, I managed (for a while at least) to remove the blinkers I must have as far as the UK and surfing. I am one of those people, guilty of thinking that good surf only really happens in the west country more especially in cornwall.

strange really as I spent some time in sussex chasing surf up and down the channel coast some years ago before settling down here in cornwall. in the time spent in sussex I did surf some very good days and though it was by comparison quite rare it did get big and powerful.

I am often also guilty of only thinking that I have to go south to france or spain to get good waves outside of cornwall but I know that glamorous as these places are it is about time that I travelled in this country.
so to this end I am planning a trip to north yorkshire in february 2008 yes it will be very cold and yes it is a long way from cornwall but I have never surfed in yorkshire and I think I should at least visit and hopefully get in the water before making any more judgements.

55ft surfed off the coast of ireland

I am pleased that the forecast mentioned in the post a few days ago came through, not just for the many local surfers in the area I live but more impressively of the coast of ireland.

where duncan scott (newquay, cornwall, UK), alistair mennie (portrush, n.ireland), gabe davies (newcastle, UK) and ritchie fitzgerald (bundoran, co. donegal, ireland), broke all records for the height of waves surfed in the british isles and ireland. tow in surfing off the coast at mullaghnmore head, with waves in the region of 55ft. working as two teams of surfer & jet ski. they managed to work a window of lighter winds to surf some amazing waves.
