respect

popped in to plymouth yesterday, my youngest was very keen to spend the small amount of pocket money I had given him. so we ended up in game and in waterstones those kind of places. I was able to enjoy a small time at the plymouth respect festival so a good day.

sorry about the picture quality forgot my camera, so photos were taken on my phone.

I have been out and about over the last couple of weeks/weekends. covering 1500+ miles on very different journeys for very different reasons, all in the south west of the uk.
only managed to take a few pictures, see below.

a bit corny I know

well we all have to be corny sometimes, don't we?
I just couldn't resist this picture yesterday as I was walking back to the car after an afternoon in plymouth. it's the reflection of a travelodge in a glass fronted building belonging to a firm of solicitors.

plymouth >> mayflower steps

just another day shopping & stuff in plymouth but this time we fancied a meal out in the evening, after embarrassing carol by taking pictures of the mayflower steps. ('we are not tourists we live here' she said). well we live in cornwall just across the river. I noticed a sculpture well a representation of a fish/lobster/shrimp. it is directly overlooking the steps. unbelievably I had never seen it before just goes to show how visually unaware I am. any way the sculpture must have inspired us as we then went to indulge ourselves with a lovely meal of seafood tapas.
sorry about the picture quality (taken on my phone).

we get it wrong sometimes >>

I run a surf forecasting website surf98 for cornwall & the south coast of the UK. we have been forecasting for more than 10 years and for the most part have got it right. except for this past weekend.
I live near the beach and was well as using the various swell forecasting computer models, I normally look at the beach & sea most days. for some reason I didn't check the ocean this past sunday.
the shame is that I go surfing as well and by me not looking at the ocean instead watching the rain and then watching ben play rugby in the rain we came home missing some very good south coast surf.

I am normally obsessive about the forecast especially the local forecast area (plymouth), and I am not afraid to admit that I got it wrong it is just hard to think that I relied on just the computer models and didn't check the surf in real time.

after that mistake, I am pleased to have learnt from it and will hopefully never simply use computer models again. I love the shipping forecast and will be listening to it on radio 4 tonight before I go to sleep.
