still haven't got back in to the swing

even though I am only one day away from my summer break (from my real work, I will still be posting here). the french trip last week and a few other work related thing have left be incredibly tired. so there was no chance of joining moby this morning as he hit the water at 6.15am for a pre-work surf. he did however have enough time to send me some pictures of what I was missing.
here are just two.

skateboarding is not just for teenagers >>

I am sure that good friend moby (pictured above skating at the weekend) will not mind me saying that he is not the youngest skateboarder in the country. but the fact remains that he is still at the skatepark and having fun, as well as being the MD of a successful auditing company and gets respect for it.skateboarding is a strange thing, I still skate and I am nearer 50 than moby but because in sports terms is is relatively new if you are older than 15-16 and still skating people think there is something wrong with you that you haven't grown up. something that doesn't happen if you are playing tennis or golf.
I hope to still be skating in 10 years, I am sure moby will.

more morocco photos >> from moby

it is over a month now since good friend moby sent me through a whole load of photos taken from a (surf) trip he made to north africa/morocco just before christmas 2007.

at the time I posted a couple but thought it a good time to post some more. I could give these picture a whole bunch of explanation but I won't as I think they capture the trip on their own.

more pictures from moby will appear here soon. for more surf shots have a look here

missed a classic surf last night >>

well apparently I missed one of the best surf sessions of the winter at my (best) beach last night. when I got in to work first thing I was instantly surrounded my those who had either surfed watched or photographed the session.
oh well another day I suppose I have to prioritise, these days. but I found a nice picture that made me feel much better. when I turned my machine on to searched the hard drive for a piece of software that I had mislaid. this picture (taken by moby in the summer) was on there all alone, (I had forgotten) so I thought I would add it. taken on the north coast. makes me think of warmer days, it won't be long until it gets like it again down here.

morocco >> winter >> moby

moby (he of the moby-cam), loyal photographer to the surf site surf98 was lucky enough to get some winter water time in morocco at the end of last year.
I will be updating as well as adding some of the many pictures he came back with on the surf site but I thought it would be good to just give a little taster here first.

photos >> surf & more

I think I am very lucky, I see many pictures of surfing and surfers as well as beaches and seascapes sent to me as the owner of the surf site surf98.
moby one of the sur98 team, he has posted hundreds of surfing pictures through in the last 10 or so years. very grateful I am too. I am looking forward to seeing the photos of his next trip to morocco at the end of this month. as he is experimenting with a water camera with which he has already taken and sent through some excellent pictures. I will make sure to add some moroccan picture to this blog when they come through

more great pictures have been provided by lelia maffey see pictures below and here. it is so good to have many different views of the same thing.

>> go skateboarding day 2007

tomorrow (thursday 21.06.07) is go-skateboarding-day-2007 and all across the world skaters of all types and ages will be going skating. I am no longer part of the brighton skate scene as I moved to cornwall years ago my son gabes is. I am sure that during the day he will be going skateboarding.

as part of the event the vans skateboard team will be at the west pier brighton around 2pm. now the reason I am interested in the vans team is that they have some old school skaters as well as contemporary skaters, I will always consider myself old school, I first went skating in the 70's and that was in brighton then later london. since moving to cornwall the skate possibilities stopped as the old school skateboard parks became derelict, and generally we have less tarmac, and concrete down here, so the beach becomes the way to go and surfing the real deal.
however more recently some repairs and rebuilding has happened and I now have some good skate parks close by, and good friend and surf98 colleague moby is the man for them (check his surf pictures on the surf98 site).
anyway to add to the skateboard day I thought this video made in brighton might be worth a look.

big waves >> maxed out ?

the excitement of the previous day was tempered by the rain, the very strong wind, feeling tired and cold, not to mention anxiety caused by the forthcoming week. so we didn't travel very far to check the waves relying instead on photographic feeds from surf98 team members. just have a look at the picture of South Fistral, Cornwall provided by moby. the beaches near me were very similar to that. that is the thing that makes surfing so difficult to follow. you don't just turn up and surf. the conditions have to be right it will normally take all day. have another look at the picture and imagine trying to paddle through all that white water.

little face

these two pictures had to be shared, they are not connected except in time. I was checking my email some pictures from moby were coming through. one of which was moby walking out into the surf last week, when a little face appeared on the other side of the room.
