time for fashion

goodness me, I have be away from blog land for much longer than I ever have, seems my days are filled with meeting and planning then some driving followed by the same.

though this time last week was the full dress rehearsal of the fashion experience. something that had been in the planning for some 6 or more months. for 26 minutes the following night the show for real time pretty much stopped for a moment. a great result a great show and I am really happy to have been part of it. things could have been improved but given the spend we had and the venue has to be said it was up there. so to bigger and better or perhaps the same size and better.

earlier in the week I was lucky enough to send some time at twofour productions. what a great place, especially for he SW (UK). if for nothing else the way the staff seem to be, happy, industrious friendly and seemly open great to see a creative industry company producing work that they are proud of an want to talk about. rather than hie it away in case you steal their ideas as some sector professional have been in years passed. have to say they certainly appeared to me to be a great company to work for, (and no I am not trying to get a job their the meeting was for a different reason).

RGB and hex >> pantone

its been a day I though it would be a 'take it easy' end to the week, no chance had a whole heap of reports that I thought I had done to re-do. then it was time to match colour.it is funny how everything seems so straight forward until you look in to it. I had been a little bit involved with a project but not much when yesterday I was asked to do some more.
I actually like being busy I really do I enjoy the idea that I have lots of things lined up to do. but what started out looking like it was half an hours colour matching turn in to an awful lot longer.
I had a problem with finding the correct cotton thread for a design (not mine) to be sewn. the image was just a bitmap. the yarn company as most still do work to pantone. so it meant matching a rgb hexadecimal number to a pantone number. I know you can simple pick the pantone colour in photoshop but the colours had been changed manually and already printed on a business card.
the yellow was easy but the blue, a particular two shades were very difficult. it is hard to explain to anyone that a colour on screen is not always, if ever the same as a colour that will be it this case sewn on fabric, (its hard enough when is on paper). I used a couple of sites to help me 1 & 2
hopefully I have got it sorted though I am sure it will come back again.

the swatch of fabric above is a design by raoul dufy the more famous older brother of the lesser known artist jean dufy. raoul is not really that well known as a fabric designer but he produced some fantastic textile designs as well as the paintings we all know.
must have been a very competitive, and productive artistic family.
I just love the idea that two members of the same family can be so successful in a competitive world. raoul work (and the way he used colour in textiles) has been special in my life and that is simple the reason I have posted this today. nothing wrong with a bit of indulgence.
